Show HN: Ferry, a highly customizable and feature-rich file manager for macOS
I am the main developer of Ferry. The team I am part of began on the demoscene in the mid-90s, but for a long while we are mainly just an indie development studio. Ferry started with me being forced to use macOS at my current workplace, which suddenly replaced a working environment I'd been using during professional career as a programmer: Windows for around 10 years, then Debian/KDE for the last 15 years. Over that time, I'd grown very accustomed to Total Commander on Windows, and later Dolphin

Version & cost evidence
Source votes: 2 votes (Nov 5, 2026 UTC; cumulative since publication); previous same-scope observation: 2 (Nov 5, 2026 UTC). These observations do not establish demand growth. Recent records to compare: “Show HN: Typos – Render Typst Documents to Thermal Printers (Go and ESC/POS)” (Show HN, Nov 5, 2026); “Show HN: Strive and Seek – original merch for builders, hackers and founders” (Show HN, Nov 5, 2026). Who is affected
Identify the existing workflow this change affects before recommending an upgrade. Launch attention does not establish improvement; an API, pricing or availability change may instead create migration work.
Missing comparison points
Missing checks: old versus new behavior, affected plans and regions, availability date, compatibility, rollback path and cost under the same workload.
Migration check
Save the release or policy notice, run the same task on the old and new option, and compare outputs and the full bill. For retirement notices, verify the deadline before scheduling migration.
